Emails on steroids

I set up email automation that is set to send an email to one of our office staffers. The routine is an if-then… that says for the calendar date send an email 60 days before the event. Our staffer is actually getting duplicates and it is flooding her inbox. Is there a way to limit the notifications to one email event only?
