I know that recurring tasks are on the roadmap. However, I am trying to figure out how to jerry rig something now…

Zapier is the way I have done it. you can get a free account and have it update one task at a time. if you have a paid account then you can do a lot more https://zapier.com/

What @Alexander.m.koehler said is true, zapier is the way to go for now.
We do have 3 pre-made templates for recurring tasks, daily, weekly and monthly recurring tasks. You can simply click on a desired template, pick a specific time you want those items to be created, then select a workspace, a board and a folder where you want those items / tasks to be created. It is a straight forward process.
You can find those templates by clicking on the profile image in the top right corner of your screen, then clcik on zapier button, and at the very bottom of the list you will find the 3 zapier pre-made templates I am talking about.
